Vivid Dreams

Vivid dreams, where do they come from, how are they produced, created ? What chemicals have to be present in the brain for these super productions to take place ?

As of late I've had some crazy dreams in vivid colors, with texture and depths and music and dialogue, its been like a Dolby surround sound movie theatre in my head.

For the record the only activity that has changed in my life, I've started taking 600 mg of calcium everyday.  I've read that vitamins can cause vivid dreams, usually it's vitamin B and magnesium that are referenced in the articles.  Calcium is never mentioned.

Last night I dreamt that I was at a whimsical fantasy Cirque de Soleil type dance recital. There were costumes, music and even audience participation. I remember three dance numbers. One was a traditional dance routine much like what the Rockettes do, a long line of tall, extremely talented dancers, all in unison, moving, dancing, the symmetry of movement exact. While the dancers were on stage it rained, part of the dance routine was in the rain. The effect was grand. The rain drops all perfectly formed and a beautiful blue, gray color. In the dream I could see individual rain drops fall on the stage and no one got wet.

The second dance number was similar to a ride at Disney. Dancers were inside glass enclosures that moved on a track, crystal car boxes, like gondolas riding up the side of a mountain, the movement was very slow. The audience was all around on stages and balconies. The cars moved along the track and the dancers inside were doing free style dancing; in that sequence I don't remember music. It was all in slow motion.

The third dance was random, dancers everywhere in the theatre, engaging audience members. I was out in the lobby of the theatre and a dancer came up and engaged me in dancing by copying all my moves. It was like being followed by a 2nd Elena.  It was weird and mesmerizing all at the same time. This part of the dream was accented by jazz music, smooth, soothing sounds, the dancing was free style and dancers were everywhere and moving slow and deliberate.

I have no idea where this dance dream came from, I've not watched any dance shows recently.  I did read an article on Queen yesterday, it had several photos of Freddy Mercury over the years in the wonderful, theatrical outfits he wore on concert stages, the photos were still photographs.  Last night I watched 15 minutes of a Chris Botti concert on PBS, maybe that's where the jazz music came from.

What I love about these dreams are how vivid they are, the colors are pure, shiny, metallic. Shapes have beautiful rounded beveled edges. And everything is real, but magical real and fantastic. It's so grand I don't think I would ever see something like this in day to day life.

I've had 3 or 4 dreams like this in the past 2 weeks. I'm going to start keeping track. Perhaps after the calcium settles in my system, the dreams will taper off.

Hmmmmm.
