Synonyms of Massacre

Today I was going to share a post about the wonderful books I read while I was at my sister's house in Florida.  One of my most favorite things to do, to get caught up in the words, sentences, images, conversations of a great story, authored by a wonderful writer.

And then last night I did what I do often,  I turned the TV on to see what might be going on in the world. I glanced at the news crawler at the bottom of the screen and the only word I could make out massacre.

Massacre, a word whose synonyms are becoming familiar: butcher, slaughter, murder, kill, annihilate, execute, decimate an on and on and on....

And often as I've done in the past, I look for the interpretations of these events in images, images that help communicate the pain, sadness, despair, the horror.

Images that represent the collective reaction of citizens in the world who are decent, caring, kind, compassionate, hopeful, peaceful.

Images that help when the world at large is at a loss for words, at a loss for comprehension of evil, at a loss for how to make sense of the magnitude of
pain and horror.

I am at a loss for words today.

I hope and pray that the summary of evil will not prevail.

I am Paris,
I am Orlando,
I am Brussels,
I am Instanbul,
I am Nice,
I am Baghdad,
I am Bangladesh,
I am exhausted”
