Texas BBQ

It was a great way to end a wonderful weekend in Austin ~ with some down home, wonderful, tried and true, TEXAS BBQ.  In Austin there are a handful of places that have serious BBQ bragging rights and The Salt Lick is one of them. 

Jenell and I drove out with Joi and Leila - and it was as good as Texas BBQ gets. I love places like The Salt Lick with history, tradition and rules.  The've been in business since the late 50's with the same family BBQ sauce recipe. They only accept cash and you have to BYOB. The restaurant is not fancy, not complicated, you feel like you are in someone's home. 

On Sunday's they serve over 2000 meals, most everyone packs a cooler with adult beverages and you can even have your picture taken by one of their 2 or 3 live cooking pits.  

The BBQ was wonderful, I got the Thurman's Choice plate which had a taste of brisket, ribs, and sausage, and 2 sides: potato salad and baked beans.  The cobblers were OH MY DELICIOUS.  And imagine, they have pecan pie, I held out and will try on my next Austin visit.
