I am back

I don't remember the last time I was sick for 7+ days.  Well actually I do remember, it was when my MOM was in Barstow Hospital during the last three months of her life back in 1974.  I was very sick for about 2 weeks and I could not visit her.

I remember as if it were yesterday, her asking me over the phone in her faint whispering voice, "Elena how did you get so sick"?  I heard that voice several times in my head these past few days, wondering myself where I caught a bug or virus that kept me in bed for 4+ days. And I mean literally in bed.

Being sick is plain awful in so many ways. I was not in pain. My energy for several days non existent, I had fever, chills, cough, sore throat, congestion; the symptoms from A to Z when invaded by persistent bug or virus. Today I am 99% better, I am pacing myself.

Over the past three days, I've added more activity each day, I've not ventured far from the house, I am almost there. I am taking meds, drinking lots of liquids, enjoying the HACKS cough drops that Madam Ceci introduced me to in Ghana. I've had several versions of chicken soup, Steve Tull, thanks for the batch you shared, it was delicious.  My other favorite, the lemon grass coconut chicken soup from Simply Thai, that also perfect. Thanks Cindy.

Maddie and Morgan are wonderful companions, they had a super slow week, taking long naps with MOM.  They took turns being close to me, they are such great daughters.  I was supposed to travel to Seattle with Cindy to visit our dear friend, Pierr Morgan, that adventure cancelled.

Last weekend I did what many people around the globe did, I watched soccer.  Both the 3rd place and the final match, one Saturday and one on Sunday.  With the WhatsApp application on my phone, I was able to get highlight comments from Panama from little Roger and his Dad, my brother, Roger.  I also read tons of information on my iPad, read books, took naps and more naps and read every magazine in the house cover to cover, AFAR, AARP, Bon Appetit.

I watched 2 movies, August Osage County and the Grand Budapest Hotel. I watched too many crime stories, Cold Case, 48 HRS, Forensic Files. Yikes. And I found a recipe for galette's, something I've never heard of before. A caramelized onion, pear, fontina cheese galette. I will post the link, Carlos said he would make it with me sometime in August.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week and I am ready to be 100%. I am making plans for travel to Ghana in 3 or 4 weeks, my to do list will get updated and I look forward to healthy days.

One day at a time.

I hope this post finds everyone healthy and enjoying their Sunday.
