> Today was a typical Saturday at the compound. We have I think 12 to 14 families, 17 children that I am aware of. I will get the official count before I head out.
>
> So the MOM's on Saturday are up early - by 6am busy washing the clothes in basins at the front of all the small units they live in. I've learned that there is no order or rules on who gets what clothes line. Whoever goes first gets whatever line they want, and the order continues based on who gets done with their laundry next and next. There are also lines outside the compound in the area where the children have the assembly each morning.

> In the morning when they are doing the laundry, because I live in the compound and I have screen windows, I get to hear the symphony of the work. I've come to appreciate so many sounds related to water, examples: when water is emptied from one basin or pail to another, the amount and speed of which this is done produces different sounds, when mothers are bathing their children there is a certain rhythm and timing when the water is poured over the child, when water is being spread to clean the patio or when they are brushing their teeth, there is the sound we are all familiar with when you basically spit water out of your mouth. It can now discern almost all the activities going on related to water being used - without looking out my window. Some sounds are soothing and almost refreshing, some sharp and extremely short in duration.

> The clothes, I think of them as flags, they remind of the flag parade when I was on a cruise a few years ago with my family. The clothes hanging comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and you can certainly tell the girls from the boys. By the end of my visit, I will be intimately familiar with every under garment worn by the compound families, its hangs in the courtyard almost every day. When the wind blows it is like a carnival. And the protocol when the rain comes, whatever Mom is in the house, she will take her laundry down and any of the laundry for any of the Mom's that may be out, running an errand, away from the area, etc. It is precision how the clothes goes up and comes down.
